In 1971, Ted Tracy was laid off from his full time job. Having been a stained glass hobbyist for some time, he decided it was a good time to start his own business. Borrowing $500 from his parents, Ted and his wife, Jean, opened a retail store on Western Avenue in Morristown. Teaching classes, selling supplies, constructing new windows and repairing old windows, business was a huge success. Within 2 years, Tracy’s had outgrown the available space and relocated to Madison Street in Morristown.
Business continued to flourish and by 1978, another relocation was needed. This time to Speedwell Avenue in Morris Plains. The extra space allowed expansion to include sandblasting, beveling and woodworking services, thus allowing us to control every aspect of each project from start to finish.
In 1987, Ted & Jean sold the business to their son, Scott (Pictured here - circa 1975) and retired onto their sailboat. For the next few years, they sailed the eastern seaboard spending their summers in Maryland, winters in Florida, and the rest of their time in between. Sadly, in 1994, Jean passed away at the age of 53. Six years later, Ted passed away at the age of 59. Cancer sucks!
Today, Scott continues to operate the business from his home in Summit, NJ.
